I have never stayed at a better hotel than the one in the port town of Alcúdia. After as much cured meat and eggs one can eat, a 20 minute walk up the road and we're in an ancient town housing roman ruins on an island in Spain. Three hours in pure isolation in history, not a tourist in sight, then back to a stunning walk along the beach looking out over the Balearic Sea. I remember feeling exceptionally relaxed during what was a period of constant change -- being in such a beautifully mixed history within the side streets of Palma, and letting myself remember that everything was probably going to be okay. (Until I rode a horse for the first time, at which point I felt like I could fall and die at any second.)
